Blogs I Love: Emma's Designblogg.

I'm running late on my "Blogs I Love" today...my schedule has been a bit crazy, this week. Anyway, I decide to feature Emma's Designblogg this week. Emma's blog is not new by any means, but I love it so, and I think more people should read it. As I was selecting pictures to post, I found myself wanting to post almost every picture she had. Everything about this blog is so perfect! Unique, intriguing, innovative, on and on. Of course, I also have an obsession for Scandinavian design. What is it about the Scandinavian look; its so simple and bold at the same time. Anytime, I want to see something totally different, I love to hop over to Emma's blog; and I am never disappointed. I'm adding it to my blog link, so be sure to check it out regularly.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I'm off to do some work and get some sunshine too!

Designer: Peter Dunham

I was thumbing through Elle Decor yesterday, and photos of Peter Dunham's store Hollywood at Home caught my eye. Dunham's work is new to me, but I love his uniquely "Hollywood" look. The combination of patterns and bright colors, mixed w/ Spanish colonial and traditional shapes is so dynamic. Definitely, not a look I see living in Texas very often. I guess the fantasy element of Hollywood movies, spreads to its interior design too. Wouldn't be great if we all allowed ourselves to have a little more whimsy and fantasy in our lives and homes?
The site for Hollywood at Home is still under construction, but there are plenty of pretty things to see in Dunham's design website.

Milan's Zona Tortona

Milan's Zona Tortona
Tamawa Watch will be displayed at the Zona Tortona

Milan's Salone di Mobile which is the world's largest furniture and interior design fair. But as big and as important as the fair is, more and more of the hipster crowd forgo the show completely and head to a district of Milan called the Zona Tortona. This district in Milan has become known for housing the hottest young designers for the week of the Salone di Mobile. The young designers have been coming here to display their wares for a few years now. They came here purely out of necessity because of the incredible exhibit costs associated with the Salone di Mobile.ANd the tradition has stuck and transformed into a large series of parties and events.

Luflic

Luflic

Luflic had some amazing chairs at Toronto’s Interior Design Show this past weekend, really catching the collective eye with two pieces called In The Round. Both these production-ready chairs, designed by Brent Cordner, are named after the in-the-round knitting technique and over 50 feet of wool sleeve is used to cover the tubular steel frame for the felt version and 30 feet for the stitch version. The Snowshoe chair (after the jump) won an award at IDS for Best prototype and it is an incredibly light chair made from a composite of wood and Kevlar and based on the traditional snowshoe. The Meander chair is a continuous length of nickel-reinforced copper tubing that results in surprisingly comfortable sculptural seating.

Shower Breasts Dispenser

When you I see it, I stared to laugh. The Shower Breasts(GBP 15; about $30) are a fun and saucy shower gel/shampoo dispenser. This naughty nipple-topped pair attaches to your shower wall, each bosom having a compartment for shower gel or shampoo. To dispense, simply squeeze away...

“iView”: Nuno Teixeira

“iView” iteration of an Apple’s iMac definitely has a lot more appeal. Taking a cue from the 1950’s CINERAMA wrap-around movie theatre screens, this iMac iMock-up features a giant curved screen(for better orientation to the natural curvature of the human eye) and a second built in LCD screen on the back(useful for students and graphic designer.)

While shooting for the stars, Nuno also included two webcams(front and back). The likelihood this will ever be made? 0%, the likelihood I would really like one of these? 100%

They were made in a *very* limited quantity, so these will no doubt dry up quickly (and you can’t buy them anywhere). Good thing I secured a set of them here at TED to give away to you, my fellow readers, right?

Minimal Dual Digital Analogue Alarm Clock Concept by Daniel Jarr

According to the designer, the clock’s alarm would be set by pressing down on the right hand side of the clock (the main body of the clock pivots slightly on its base) to switch modes with the dial around the analogue clock face being rotated to set the desired alarm time whilst pressing down on the left side of the clock will activate the device’s 10 minute snooze mode. Pressing down on the analogue clock’s frame will act to illuminate the clocks dial in low light situations.

Absolut Machines: Absolut Quartet by Tim Yu

Absolut Machines is Absolut's promotional initiative that explores where technology meets design in the form of two "machines." Last night we got to check out one, the Absolut Quartet, an interactive multi-instrumental robotic machine. It consists of a marimba played by rubber balls precisely shot from a robotic cannon, a series of spinning wineglasses dampened by robotic fingers and an array of percussive instruments.

Wall Dividers from Water Bottles

Klein Dytham Architecture designed this space for the Danone Company whose main product lines include Evian and Volvic water–using their products as design material for the space.

The Concept:
Translucent screens were made to create special zones for seating, and meetings in an otherwise open plan office. Empty Evian bottles were strung on wires stretching from floor to ceiling like beads on a string.

"No" fashion brings the third dimension to haute-couture

The 3-D outfit above may be the weirdest and most creative we've seen, without the need for wires, LEDS, or Wi-Fi. Yes, to show the world that they are designers who just don't conform, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren of Victor & Rolf created clothes that literally say "no" to, well, everything. The outfit above was shown yesterday in Paris as part of the designers' 2008 fall collection. A similarly designed outfit was a little more polite and said "dream" in its enormous 3-D wool letters.

To do...or not to do!

I have a to-do list as long as my arm! I want to organize all my photos, put them in albums and sort the ones that need to be scrap-booked (totally overwheming!!), take all our family home videos to be converted to DVD, dust (my least favourite job), rake the huge gravel stones off my lawn, start some spring cleaning, plan my son's birthday, and more!! I simply can't seem to work through it in a systematic manner, however. This week has been busy with work-related appointments and coupled with kid's activities, feeling rotten, and basic household "chores" I can't seem to get the energy, or desire, to tackle it. I did manage to shake the cobwebs off me yesterday and meet a friend for lunch, which I think went a long way towards persuading myself I felt "better" (I chose to ignore the spinning in my head, the low-grade fever and the growly chest congestion). After taking my son to the doctor so she could have a look at his "wrestling with his little brother" wrist injury (and subsequent x-ray), I raced home to make a chicken stew and home-made rolls (well, from the breadmaker). I figured the nutrition in the stew would help those of us with the cold, and would guarantee a Friday night take-out night, considering hubby cooked dinner the night before...apple pancakes and sausages...comfort food at its best.
After dinner, I headed out for another decor consult: a kitchen, living room, and bathroom ...where I hoped the clients didn't mind my gravelly voice and red nose. I so love this job - its flexibility with hours means I am always home when my kids are, and hubby or my eldest son can fill in the gaps when I have evening or weekend appointments.

Other than that, I am happy to be gearing up for a weekend spent helping good friends move, shuttling my boys to and from basketball games( I love indoor sports!), and hosting play dates for my girlie. March break is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I am more than ready for the break from making lunches....how pathetic is that??!!
